Actually, Gears of War 2 has a score of 94/100 on Metacritic. That is universal acclaim, thus making it an 'AAA' title.
Now I don't really want to bring Resistance 2 into it, but people oh so love to do so. Resistance 2 has a score of 89/100 on Metacritic - a 'generally favourable' status.
I love how the PS3 owners rush to the Gears of War 2 reviews that are 9/10 - someone must tell me when 9/10 became a bad score.

Honestly, you guys are too much sometimes. Just accept it - Gears of War 2 is scoring higher than Resistance 2. There's no shame in that.
People should just relax. Last time I checked, 8.5/10 was a very good score. Maybe it's not as high as people were expecting, but it's silly to start drawing up conspiracies and extremist theories.
I'm not going to go and say all this "flop this, flop that" because, well... since when was 8.5/10 considered a flop? Not in my eyes.
But members such as Prosecutor had this coming. You constantly go onto the Gears of War 2 review pages and brand it a 'flop' when you see a score such as 9/10. I think a large slice of humble pie is in order for you good sir.

Gears of War 2 will be scored lower by some sites because it lacks the WOW factor of the first game. People had never seen visuals like that before, or gameplay that flowing and effective. While Gears of War 2 is undoubtedly an improvement, some reviewers believe it's just more of the same.

I've got to admit, it's funny seeing PS3 owners getting all agitated and defensive. Of course Gears of War 2 hasn't scored perfectly, but it's still scoring bloody well.
There'll be many 100% scores round the corner as well, that's for sure.

I would say that neither is particularly reliable.
Metacritic takes the scores of the most trusted sites. In some regard it is reliable because of the scores it is using, but then other scores don't count - why is that?
N4G is the complete opposite. N4G takes every score into account; that's a problem as much as it is a positive. Everyday blogs and newspapers that have little interest or knowledge in gaming get counted towards the overall score. So, in that regar...
